Forget three cherries in a row — slot players at Gun Lake Casino in Wayland are aiming for three Faucis.

In what appears to be a first-of-its-kind promotion, prospective gamblers can get $20 in free slot play at Gun Lake provided they show proof of vaccination against COVID-19.

Calling it “Stay Safe. Stop the Spread. Get Rewarded,” the promotion is simple enough. To qualify, you must be a member of the Gun Lake Casino Rewards club (membership is free) and upon arrival at the casino show your ID and your completed vaccination card. Two shots of Moderna or Pfizer, one shot of Johnson & Johnson, and the $20 in free play is granted.

The promotion began April 5 and runs through May 31.

Gun Lake knows how to market

This is not the first clever bit of marketing at Gun Lake; the casino offers a massive reward program to its employees, something they’ve been doing since 2011. In fact, this past November — and despite the pandemic playing havoc with the bottom line — the casino handed out over $600,000 in bonuses. Since the program’s inception, the company has given out more than $16 million in bonus money.

“Throughout these times our priority focus has been the health and safety of our guests and team members with our Play It Safe Initiative,” Sal Semola, Gun Lake Casino’s president and chief operating officer, said in a press release at the time. “We are exceptionally proud, especially during a pandemic, to continue providing a superior gaming experience despite the challenges in doing so. I extend a heartfelt thank you to our team members and the community for complying with our safety protocols and continuing to follow these measures diligently.”

Gun Lake Casino —  which is owned and operated by the Match-E-Be-Nash-She-Wish Band of Pottawatomi Indians (Gun Lake Tribe)– was also recently named one of Western Michigan’s “best and brightest” companies to work for by The National Association of Business Resources.
