September always means two things: football, and with it, a return to form for sportsbooks.
Michigan was no exception to that rule, as the 15 online sportsbooks combined for a handle of $364.5 million for the month, a giant leap up from August’s $218.8 million figure.
And the books cleaned up, with gross sports betting receipts totaling $47.8 million, for a whopping hold of 13.1%.
Tax payments to the state totaled just north of $1.6 million, and another $759,344 in tax payments was paid to the city of Detroit.
Breaking it down by operator, DraftKings broke through and regained the top spot in handle with a $108.2 million month, besting FanDuel’s $106.3 million month. Third place, as usual, was BetMGM at $74.8 million. Barstool regained fourth place — barely — with a $22.33 million September, sneaking past fifth place Caesars at $22.29 million.
Best of the rest
Sixth place was PointsBet, which leapt to a $11 million number, and BetRivers finished at $5.5 million, taking the seventh place spot. WynnBET took a commanding lead over FOX Bet in their ongoing battle for eighth and ninth place, with WynnBET handling $4.5 million and FOX Bet $2.5 million.
FireKeepers had its first $2 million month since March, and Soaring Eagle, once again, continued its strong showing among the tribes that are going at it alone with a $1.7 million month.
Rounding out the rest: Parx at $1.1 million, Golden Nugget at $917,485, SI Sportsbook (the newest entry) at $766,063, and Four Winds at $534,857.
