Where have you gone, Amon-Ra St. Brown? A city turns its lonely eyes to you. Woo-woo-woo.
OK, well, the syllables fit, if not, exactly, the sentiment.
As of the time of this writing, the Lions’ star wideout is stuck with a “questionable” designation for Monday night’s nationally televised home tilt against the Las Vegas Raiders. The tag is due to an illness. St. Brown is, quite simply, sick.
The sportsbooks, however, either don’t care or, perhaps more likely, believe St. Brown will suit up for the game. The matchup opened with the Lions as 7.5-point favorites, and a week later the Lions are still 7.5-point favorites. BetRivers is offering the best price at -103 for the home team giving the points.
The Lions are a robust -350 on the moneyline at FanDuel, and the total for the game is set at 46.5, with the over at -110 at BetMGM, Caesars, and most others, and the under at -105 at FanDuel.
More injuries
The Lions are coming off a highly disappointing 38-6 drubbing by the Baltimore Ravens. That game, which was played outside the cozy confines of Ford Field, gave Lions boosters a little dose of reality following a month-long stretch of dominance.
And while the sportsbooks love the Lions this week to get back on track, the team is dealing with some injuries beyond St. Brown.
David Montgomery is set to miss another game with his rib injury, which means rookie Jahmyr Gibbs will once again assume near-bellcow duties after getting 20 touches (11 carries and nine receptions) against the Ravens.
The Lions will also be dealing with another week of offensive line injuries, with center Frank Ragnow doubtful and guard Jonah Jackson already ruled out.
On top of all this, wideout Marvin Jones — who hasn’t done all that much this year — had to walk away from the team due to family issues.
Despite the injuries, these are the types of games would-be Super Bowl contenders — the Lions are +1000 at DraftKings to hoist the Lombardi — are supposed to win.
Prop central
On the player prop front, Jared Goff’s passing yardage number is set at 262.5 at FanDuel, at -113 on the over, and it’s 265.5 at PointsBet, with the under priced at -115.
Gibbs’ rushing yardage prop is set at a rather robust 70.5 at -115 at DraftKings on either side of the total.
FanDuel still has St. Brown’s yardage prop up, set at 78.5 at -114 both ways. Gibbs’ receiving prop is at 24.5 at FanDuel (-113 on the over), and 27.5 at BetRivers (-110 to go under).
The value, if St. Brown ends up sitting, is probably with both Josh Reynolds and Sam LaPorta. Reynolds’ over can be had for as low as 35.5 at -110 at DraftKings, and LaPorta is at 44.5 at -113 at FanDuel.
