The Detroit Lions are currently +1800 underdogs to win the Super Bowl at virtually all of Michigan’s mobile sportsbooks. This puts them below eight other teams, but is it really too early to start dreaming of Lombardi?
After this week’s game against the Panthers, the Lions’ schedule has only two teams — the Ravens and the Cowboys — with better Super Bowl odds. And a further look at the schedule yields only one other game — on the road against the Chargers — where the Lions might be underdogs if the lines were set today.
In short, this might be a 13-4 team, and if that’s the case, those +1800 odds are going to be long gone by the time the playoffs roll around.
But first, they’ll contend with the Panthers at home, where the Lions opened as 7.5-point favorites but have been bet all the way to up to 10, with the best price being -108 at DraftKings. On the moneyline, the best price is also at DraftKings at -455, while it’s all the way up at -500 at BetMGM.
The total is set at over 44 at -110 at Caesars, and under 44.5 at -110 at BetRivers. And while betting advice is not given here, the fact remains that the Lions would prefer to keep the ball on the ground with David Montgomery as long as possible, and the Panthers have scored 40 points — total — in the three games with Bryce Young under center. Do with this information what you will.
Player prop central
Speaking of Montgomery, the place to bet the over on his rushing yard prop is BetRivers, at -115 for over 70.5 yards. Montgomery has hit that number in both games he’s played where the Lions won, and just missed it in the loss to the Seahawks.
Montgomery, who has five touchdowns in his three games, is also a mind-melting -140 at BetMGM to punch one in this Sunday. Perhaps a little sprinkle of the fearsome Detroit defense at +700 at FanDuel to score one is a more fun sweat.
Meanwhile, Jared Goff, who gets Jameson Williams back this week, has a yardage prop of 238.5 on the over at FanDuel at -114 and under 243.5 at -115 at DraftKings.
No receiving props for Williams have been set, but Amon-Ra St. Brown — about as steady as they come — sees his yardage total set at 71.5 across the books offering the prop as of Thursday. He’s missed that number twice so far this year, but once by only a half a yard.
